David M. Lampton Named Director of SAIS China Studies

David M. Lampton, one of the country's leading authorities on China, has assumed the George and Sadie Hyman Chair of China Studies at The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC.

Dr. Lampton is the former president of the National Committee on United States-China Relations in New York (1988-1997), director of China Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, (1985-1987), and associate professor of political science at Ohio University (1974-1987).

He is the author of Paths to Power: Elite Mobility in Contemporary China (1986, reprinted in 1989, with Yeung Sai-cheung), and A Relationship Restored (1986, with Joyce Madancy and Kristen Williams).

Dr. Lampton will work closely with SAIS's Nanjing Center, the only campus and graduate program administered by an American university in the People's Republic of China.
