Alice Mattoni

Adjunct Professor of Political Science, SAIS Europe; Associate Professor in Sociology of Cultural and Communicative Processes, University of Bologna. Professor Mattoni carries out research on the way in which media - digital and otherwise - intersect with street protests and social movements. She is currently Principal Investigator of the BIT-ACT research project, which has received funding from the Starting Grant 2018 programme of the European Research Council. As part of the BIT-ACT project she investigates the creation and use of digital media by civil society actors to fight corruption. Mattoni’s research lays at the intersection of different fields of study, including political sciences, political communication, social movement studies and digital media studies.

Previously Professor Mattoni held positions at Scuola Normale Superiore. She was a Research Fellow at Centre on Social Movement Studies – COSMOS, and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh, Department of Sociology. PhD, European University Institute.
